ENGINEERING WEEK 2013!
Feb, 18-23
 
It's that time of year again.  That time when it's fridgid outside, the air quality is terrible and the College of Engineering is stirring with activity.  The Engineering Students take this week to crawl out of their holes, leave the computer lab behind and celebrate all that is awesome about Engineering.  This week at the University coincides with the National Engineering Week (www.eweek.org). There is much to celebrate!  Below is a list of all the amazing things going on at USU during E-Week.
 
 
Monday, February 18th
 
Since engineering is so amazing, (and since President George Washington was a Surveying Engineer) we declare this day a holiday and decree that there shall be NO SCHOOL!!!!
 
Tuesday, February 19th
  • Breakfast from the Dean - Free breakfast courtesy of Dean Hinton.  7:00 AM - til it's gone  3rd floor of ENGR over by the East Windows.
  • Employer Panel - Organized by Career Services, there will be employers from each major forming a panel to which students can address questions regarding internships, becoming more marketable, what employers look for in graduates, interviewing strategies etc.  3-4 PM ENGR 201
  • Reed Searle from Blue Castle Nuclear Power Plant Project - Reed is coming to speak about the Blue Castel Project that is in the process of licensing a Nuclear Power Plant to be constructed near Green River, UT.  He will talk about many of the non-scientific challenges that face engineers out in the real world.  5-6 PM ENGR 101  Refreshments Provided!

Wednesday, February 20th
  • Annual Engineering Week Luncheon - Luncheon for students, faculty, staff, friends and family.  The lunch will consist of an Italian Buffet and is pretty fancy! The luncheon is from 11:30 - 1:00 (Common Hour) in the TSC Ballroom. College awards presented and E-Week Keynote speaker Charlie Precourt.  Charlie is the VP and GM of ATK's Space Launch Division.  He also had a 15-year career as an Astronaut for NASA and is a member of the NASA Astronaut Hall of Fame.  Tickets for the luncheon are only $1!!!  They will be onsale on the 3rd floor of ENGR outside the computer lab at various times the week before.  The tickets will also be availble from 8-5 M-F from the Engineering Advising Office (ENGR 314A).  Get your tickets early, seating is limited.

  • Club Competitions will be going on most of the day.  See the Club Compeition Board posted across the hall from the Engineering Advising Office (ENGR 314A).
  • Darren Ashby - Darren is the Director of Electrical Engineering at ICON Health and Fitness.  He is an Alumnus of USU and is the author of "Electrical Engineering 101: Everything you should've learned in school but didn't..." He is the owner of 25 patents has taught courses at USU.  He will be helping engineering students prepare for real-world engineering as well as sharing some of his experiences and passions.  5-6 PM in ENGR 104  Refreshments provided!

Thursday, February 21st
  • Club Competitions will be going on most of the day. See the Club Compeition Board posted across the hall from the Engineering Advising Office (ENGR 314A).
  • Sandia Tech Talk - Sandia National Labs will have representatives present during most of E-Week.  Most of them are USU Engineering Alumni!  The will be holding a tech talk geared towards freshman and sophomores about how to prepare for the Professional Engineering Program at USU.  3:00-3:50 PM ENGR 103  Refreshments provided!

  • 3rd Annual College of Engineering Community Night - For the third straight year the College of Engineering will bring out all of its Sr. Design and Research projects, put all of their amazing work on display.  We will have the infamous Spider Goats, a myriad of fun activities that kids and adults alike will enjoy.  The Society of Women Engineers (SWE)  will be holding its annual Ms. Engineering Pageant and Nerdy Man Competition.  And best of all, there will be FREE AGGIE ICE CREAM FOR ALL!  6:00 - 8:30 PM  ENGR Building

Friday, February 22nd
  • Lunch from the Dean - Come enjoy free sub sandwhiches courtesy of Dean Hinton.  Noon til they're gone.  3rd Floor ENGR cafeteria area. 
  • Department Awards Ceremonies - Each department has its own separate awards ceremony and keynote speaker. Between 1:30-4:00 PM  ENGR Building
  • Cardboard Boat Races - Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Get-Away Special (GAS) clubs are organizing cardboard boat races at the HPER pool!  Build your own boat, check out the rules on the Club Competition Board across from the Advising Office and find a rowing buddy!  4:00-6:00 PM HPER Pool
Saturday, February 23rd
  • Rest, recover, catch-up on homework :)

Have a good Engineering Week!  And don't forget to buy the new College of Engineering T-Shirt.  They're major-specific so you can support your department and they get you special perks and priviledges during E-Week; like line-skipping at all food events!  Shirts will be for sale at the same table as the luncheon tickets during the week before e-week and from the advising office any time between 8 AM and 5 PM Monday - Friday.
